BANGOR – Lawrence “Larry” Murphy, 75, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor. He was born January 10, 1938 in Bangor, the ninth of six sons and three daughters born to Andrew and Eleanor (Spencer) Murphy. Larry grew up in Milford and in 1955 he entered the U.S. Navy. After his discharge in 1959, he married Eldona Earle on October 6, 1962 with whom he would share fifty one years of marriage. Larry went to work at the University of Maine at Orono in 1963, and worked there until his retirement in 2003. Larry was a faithful member of the Bangor Church of Christ for many years. He enjoyed hunting when he was younger and taking long walks around their neighborhood, but most of all he loved being with Eldona. In addition to his wife Eldona, he leaves behind their son Spencer of California and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Larry was predeceased by their infant son, Anthony. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday November 23, 2013 at Bangor Church of Christ, 516 Union St. The family invites relatives and friends to a reception following the service at 2014 Skyway Valley in Hermon.
