Leah Foster

November 27, 1923 — June 28, 2020

Heaven received another angel. Leah C. Foster, 96, left us to be with God on June 28, 2020 at her sisters home surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 27, 1923, in Hampden, the daughter of Henry N. and Ruth E. (Pipes-Mooers) Gould.

Leah was a piano teacher in the Hampden community for 26 years. She was a member and was the music director at the Hampden Highlands United Methodist Church for many years where she also played and helped with the choir. Leah enjoyed working with her hands by sewing, crocheting, knitting and playing with puzzles. For several years she also worked in a shoe factory. She was a dear lady and touched the heart of every person who knew her. Leah had an excited expression that shined a light on other people’s good news in life that made them feel better. She was always concerned about how she could help and raise up others over her own concerns.

She is survived by her daughters, Lorraine Nealey of Ohio, Brenda Leighton and husband Alan of Hampden; sisters, Marie Dow of Newport, Barbara Dolliver of Rome, ME; daughter-in-law, Dolores “Dee” Coates of Alaska; grandchildren, Tracy, William, Brent, Melissa, Christopher, Joshua, Krista, Alicia, Rebecca, Kim, Bobby, Barbie, Lisa, and Brent; many great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Harry she was predeceased by a son Gerry Coates; sisters, Norma, Lora, Phyllis, and Lorraine; brothers, Reginald, Charles, and George.

A Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date. She will be interred at Locust Grove Cemetery, Hampden. Gifts in her memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.

When I am gone, release me, let me go.
I have so many things to see and do.
You mustn’t tie yourselves to me with tears,
Just be happy that we had some years.
I gave you all my love, you can only guess how much you gave to me in happiness.
I thank you for all the love you each have shown,
But now it’s time I traveled on alone.
I won’t be far away, for life goes on.
So if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can’t see or touch me I’ll be near,
And you listen with your heart and you will hear,
All of my love around so soft and dear.
All my love, Leah
