Lee F. Alexander Jr., “Leebo”, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family and friends on October 24, 2015 at the age of 82. He was born May 10, 1933, in Hudson, the son of Lee F. Alexander Sr. and Arlene (Davis) Alexander.
Lee is survived by his wife, Mae L. (Ballanger) Alexander of Bangor; his three daughters: Cindy Leen and husband Buster, Brenda Mulligan and husband Kevin, Gayle Quirk and husband Tom; sisters: Joyce Karp, Irene Hastey and friend Tom Snelgrove, Mildred Kinens, Lois Ann Knowles and husband Melvin, and brother Artie Alexander; six grandchildren: Ashley Ellis and husband Dave, Sean Mulligan and wife Heather, Melissa Quirk-Coburn and husband Jon, Ryan Mulligan and friend Hilary Thibeault, Chris Quirk and friend Katie Day, and Emily Leen and friend John Kiel; great-grandson, Jacob Coburn; sisters-in-law: Janet Brown and Barbara Johns, and brothers-in-law: Gerald and Jim Ballanger. Lee was predeceased by his parents; sister, Geraldine Coppola; brothers-in-law: Harry Karp, Bruce Hastey, and Harry Kinens; and sister-in law, Patsy Alexander.
Lee met the love of his life, Mae, at the age of five. He demonstrated his young love by carving their initials in the barn and on every tree he came across. Lee was a compassionate man who touched the lives of every person he met and will be greatly missed. Lee attended Husson College. Lee joined the Air Force in 1952 during the Korean War and was stationed in Landsberg, Germany. Lee retired from the Air National Guard as a Staff Sargent in 1978. Lee was an active and dedicated member for over 50 years of the Glenburn Evangelical Church. He was a selectman in Glenburn and a member of the VFW. A special thank you to Kristen, Jean, and Amanda of Beacon Hospice for their care of Lee and his family.
A funeral service to celebrate Lee’s life will be held 10am Friday, October 30, 2015 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, with the Rev. Jack Dowling officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor immediately following the service Friday. Interment with military honors will be held in Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor following the reception.
