GLENBURN – Leita Caroline (Frey) Washburn, 67, passed away peacefully October 11, 2019, at her home surrounded by family. She was born February 14, 1952, in Bangor, the daughter of Augustin F. Frey and Irene E. Walker.
Leita graduated from Brewer High School, Class of 1970. Following graduation, she attended nursing school and continued her career as a Registered Nurse at St. Joseph Hospital for 44 years, until her retirement in 2017. She married Lewis Washburn on July 4, 1981, and together they shared 26 years of marriage, until his passing in 2007. The most important thing to Leita was her family. She loved family dinners, celebrating holidays and birthdays and poolside fun with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed the outdoors and traveling with her family and friends to many beautiful destinations. Leita loved spending time at camp with her fiancé, Scot E. Shorey, and their beloved dog, Jules. She will be remembered as a compassionate, fun loving, strong willed, beautiful woman with a heart made of gold. Leita touched many lives and will be missed by all who knew her.
Leita was predeceased by her biological father, Augustin Frey; her father, Leonard Murphy; her step-mother, Priscilla “Penny” Murphy; her husband, Lewis; and her grandson, John Lewis Sullivan. She is survived by her mother, Irene Walker and husband, David; her daughter, Angela Sullivan and husband, Andrew; her son, Michael Washburn and wife, Kristen; grandchildren, Brooklyn, James, and Ryan; her fiancé, Scot E. Shorey; her siblings, Mary Bishop and husband, Terry, Gus Frey and wife, Barbara, Shirley Norton and husband, Bruce, William Murphy, Ronald Murphy and wife, Vicki, Skip Murphy and wife Linda; nieces and nephews; her former work family and many special friends
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, with Rev. Dr. Rex H. Garrett, officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to share conversations at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor, immediately following the service. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
