MSgt (Ret) Lemuel “Marty” Martin Clark was a true patriot who loved God and his country. He began a twenty-one-year honorable and distinguished military career in 1983 with his enlistment in the United States Marine Corps. Upon completion of his service as a Marine, he went on to serve both the Nation and the State of Maine, first in the Maine Army National Guard, and later transitioned to the Maine Air National Guard. His final sixteen years as a MAINEiac were serving initially in the 101st Security Forces Squadron, and then with the 101st Mission Support Flight, where he served as a Production Recruiter. He was later promoted to Recruiting Office Supervisor, the position he held until his retirement in 2005. He worked extensively with Maine youth in a variety of career-oriented programs, in high schools in the Northern two-thirds of Maine. He had a strong relationship with the Junior ROTC programs in several high schools and served as a counselor for Dirigo Boys State at Maine Maritime Academy. Marty knew the balance of being both an airman and a friend. People knew his character immediately with his greeting of a handshake and welcoming smile. He was well known and highly respected. He was a proud veteran with the utmost respect for the United States Flag and all those who served. His decorations included the Army Achievement Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal (with one device), Army Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.
