Lena “Lee” SImard
Hampden
Lena “Lee” (Squires) Simard, 93, our mother, died peacefully December 31, 2015 in Bangor. She was born December 12, 1922 in Bonavista Bay, Newfoundland to Emma and William Squires. They moved to the states when she was 3 years old and she grew up in Lynn, MA, graduating from Lynn Classical High School, class of 1940. She and George Omer Simard were married in 1946 and began their family. Many happy years were spent in Revere and Wilmington MA as memories were made.

Over the years they lived in many places and Lena made lifelong friends wherever she went. She had many talents but her strongest was the ability to make friends. She always worked, at jobs too numerous to list, to help support the family. Spending time with family, as it grew to include grandchildren and great grandchildren was by far her favorite pastime and greatest source of pride.

They moved back North after 15 years in Florida when Mum needed help caring for Dad. He died in 2004 and Mum started a new chapter in her life. She attended St. Matthews Catholic Church and was very involved with the Hampden Senior Citizens, once again developing strong and lasting friendships.

Surviving are one sister Carol Pappas of Lynn, MA, 4 children, Peter Simard and his wife Francena of Gloucester, MA, Kenneth Simard and his wife Donna of Arundal, ME, Christine Greenier and her husband David of Hampden, and Jeanine Simard and wife Lisa Ludwig of Georgetown, MA., seven grandchildren, Michael Simard of FL, Kathleen Simard of NC, David Simard of Saco, ME, Lisa Stanton of Lyman ME, Tony Piccosi of Georgetown, MA and Jeffrey and Gregory Beswick both of Hampden, and many great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, George, and her brother Stephen Squires.

Relatives and friends are invited to call 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Av., Hampden. A funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2016, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Western Av. Hampden.
