Lester Joseph Nadeau, 92, died Friday, February 21, 2025, at home, with his beloved wife by his side. He was born in Old Town, ME, on October 28, 1932, the firstborn son of Joseph and Mary (Berthe Mazerolle) Nadeau.
Lester graduated from Deering High School, Portland, in 1951, later earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of Maine in 1959. He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Although he worked in Sociology and fundraising for both Husson University and the Alumni Association at the University of Maine, his primary love was music, specifically the trumpet, at which he excelled from high school on into professional performance life. Lester was a first-call lead trumpet player for name acts, including Milton Berle, Dance/Jazz Bands including the Al Corey Band, Stage Shows, Ice Shows, and Community Bands, especially the Bangor Band and the Ellsworth Community Band. He also served as an Army Honor Guard bugler for military and private services.
Lester is survived by his wife, Jeanne Pocius Nadeau of Orono; his three sons: Joel (Tanya), Todd, and Brian (Lanissa); two grandsons, Henry and Gavin; and four granddaughters, Emma, Morgan, Kaitlyn, and Lauren; and many friends and colleagues.
The family wishes to thank the Orono EMS service and Police Department for their assistance after his passing.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no visiting hours or services. A memorial tribute concert will be held later in the year.
