Hampden - Lewis C. Giles Jr., 93, passed away October 10, 2024, at a local nursing facility. He was born in Hampden on December 9, 1930, the son of Lewis C. and Velma (Arey) Giles Sr.
Lewis was a graduate of Hampden Academy before entering the Air National Guard, serving as a cockpit technician on fighter jets during the Korean War. He went on to work at the Emple Knitting Mill for over 35 years as Department Supervisor. Lewis enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, snowmobiling, and bowling. He was a member of Hampden Goodwill Riders Snowmobile Club, serving as club president for many years.
In addition to his parents, Lewis was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy; daughter, Suzanne Giles; sisters, Kathleen, Florence, Shirley, Lucille and Geneva; and brothers, Stanley, Robert and Frank. He is survived by his son, Lewis C. Giles IV; grandchildren, Jason Card of Greenville, Lewis C. Giles V of Hampden, and Audra Giles of Bangor; four great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Helen Giles of Hampden and Jesse Giles of Newburgh; brother-in-law, Ralph Staples of Bangor; and several nieces and nephews.
Lewis will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden, alongside his wife and daughter. There will be no service. A service of Brookings-Smith.
