Lillian Jane (McGinley) Glidden, 91, beloved wife of Robert E. Glidden of Orrington, passed away June 12, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was born Jan. 26, 1924, in Winn, Maine, the daughter of James and Clara McGinley.
She graduated from Winn High School in 1941 and moved to Orrington where she met Bob. She worked at Woolworth’s and Claire’s News Stand during the war and married her sweetheart in 1946. She later worked at M. L. French & Son’s clothing store and as office manager and bookkeeper at Glidden Auto Body.
Lillian was a member of the Orrington Corner Methodist Church, the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW, the Order of the Eastern Star, Milwee #198, and the PTA of Orrington schools. She and Bob enjoyed many foreign travels and, after retirement, continued exploring in their RV. She also looked forward to her weekly rug-hooking sessions with the local Happy Hookers.
She is predeceased by her parents, her 15 siblings and their spouses. Surviving are husband, Robert Glidden of Orrington; daughter, Judy Patterson and husband, Vern of Whiting; daughter, Gail Anne Rowe and husband, Jim of Cape Elizabeth; son, Dave and wife, Robin of Bucksport; grandchildren, Paul Patterson of Edmunds, and Corina Glidden and fiancé, Chris Fitzgerald of Orrington.
Family and friends are welcome to call 5 – 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Brookings-Smith Funeral Home, 133 Center St., Bangor where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2015.
