Bangor- Lillian L. (Lieba Leah) Silver, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt died at the age of 92 on September 18, 2015 at a Bangor hospital surrounded by her children. She was born November 23, 1922 to Barney and Sarah (Goldberg) Silver. In 1940 she graduated from Orono High School where she played varsity center and developed her lifelong love of basketball. when she played varsity center. She attended the University of Maine until the outbreak of WWII, when she left to work as a bookkeeper to assist in the family business at Silver’s Auto in Orono, Maine. Married to Peter Schwartz in 1948, Lillian was a caring homemaker while her children grew and later, when they were grown, she returned to work at Silver’s Auto until her retirement. Bobbi Leah, as she was affectionately known, loved her family with all her heart. She loved living in her hometown of Bangor, where she knew many and was loved by all. She was especially loved by her Beth Israel family, where she was a lifelong member of the Beth Israel Sisterhood and the synagogue Friendship Club. She attended services and was often proudly in attendance at Beth Israel to hear her daughter, Barbara, read Torah. She supported many Jewish charities, was a member of the Eastern Maine Medical Center Auxiliary and enjoyed spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her four brothers. She is survived by her sister Dorothy Serota of Bangor as well as by her children: Daughters Barbara Schwartz of Bangor and Beryl J. Steinbach and her husband Harold of Teaneck, NJ., as well as her son Steven Schwartz and his wife Annette of Clifton NJ., seven grandchildren: Sarah, Rachel and Avi Steinbach of Teaneck, NJ. Sarah and David Small also of Teaneck and Emily and Julie Schwartz of Clifton, NJ. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Sunday, September 20th, 2015 at the Jewish Funeral Chapel, 118 Center St., Bangor. Internment will be held at the Beth Israel Cemetery, Bangor.
