Linda J. Collins

March 3, 1949 — March 6, 2020

BANGOR AND BREWER - Linda J. Collins, 71, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, March 6, 2020, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Bangor, where she was being treated for a sudden and unexpected stroke.

She was born March 3, 1949, in Bangor, the daughter of Philip and Pearl (Cushman) Jarvis. She is survived by her husband of fifty years, Nick; her children, Lisa Davis, and Matthew Collins and his wife, Meghan; four grandchildren, Colby, Sean, Alexandra, and Lily; sisters-in-law, Jeanne Jarvis, and Connie Judkins; brother-in-law, Howard Collins and his wife, Aline; aunt, Patricia Peterson; special nephew, Rob Jarvis and his wife, Jaime; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, David.

Linda graduated from Bangor High School in 1967 and received her Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition from the University of Maine in 1970. That same year, Linda married her high school sweetheart, Nick. She worked as a Dietician at EMMC for several years before Lisa was born at which time Linda decided to 'retire' and be a stay-at-home mom. Son, Matt joined Lisa four years later. Linda was a devoted mother who loved her children dearly.

Linda volunteered for many years at the EMMC gift shop. She amassed an amazing collection of items to decorate her home for each holiday and season of the year. From snowmen to Santas, Linda created a welcoming and cheerful home and hosted many family get-togethers where special memories were made.
Linda and her family enjoyed many summers at their camp on Branch Lake. Linda looked forward to her daily walks with many good friends, BBQs, boat rides, and summer parties were special for all. In later years, visits by the grandchildren created joyous activities, with swimming, fishing, 'tubing', games, and many meals involving 'Mimi's' cooking. Linda was an avid cook with family and friends always making special requests at gatherings.

Linda and Nick also went on many vacation trips, but Aruba held a special place in her heart, where she made many friends over the last 30 years. Linda took the time to learn the local Aruban language, Papiamento, which she spoke so well she always surprised locals who praised her 'perfect' accent. With the use of Papiamento, making Aruban friends was natural and a great joy to Linda (all Arubans speak English so her effort to learn their language was special). Linda was a great sports fan and was delighted when the Red Sox signed Aruban Xander Bogarts.

Linda's favorite sport was hockey, and she liked to cheer for the UMaine Black Bears. She also braved the sometimes cold weather to go to many UMaine football games. She had first 'dibs' on the newspaper sports section. She rarely missed going to her children's sporting events who excelled in swimming, football, and track. Watching the grandchildren at their sporting events carried on this tradition.

Linda was a longtime and active member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish. She enjoyed sharing her connection to the church with her granddaughters, often taking them to Sunday service and family gatherings.

Linda's family extends their appreciation to St. Joseph's Hospital staff and the many friends who have expressed their support and sadness. Linda was loved by many and her kindness is a model for us all.
