Lois Bowie

May 7, 1942 — December 1, 2022

Lois K. Bowie (Mansfield) of Orono, Maine went home to heaven on December 1, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Hospital surrounded by loved ones. Lois was born in Portland, ME. She grew up in the coastal town of Yarmouth, ME. She graduated from North Yarmouth Academy in 1960 where she was on the swimming team, the rifle club, glee club, the drama club and many other activities. She worked various jobs in Yarmouth; from the fish cannery to the counter at the local soda fountain. Her beautiful voice could be heard in the choir at First Baptist Church in Yarmouth. Lois and Gerald P. (Jerry) Bowie fell in love on the dancefloor and were married at First Baptist Church on July 15th, 1960. Jerry and Lois continued to dance through life together through many states to include: Mapleton, ME, Upper Darby, PA, a small farm in Otisco, NY, Mechanicsville, VA. Later on, they were able to return to their home state of Maine and enjoyed many years at their camp home on Phillips Lake in Lucerne-in-Maine.

Lois was a loving and faithful soul who devoted her life to caring for her husband and family, and serving others. Her kind and gentle nature was evident to all. Lois’ desire to help and serve others led her to continue her education. She initially studied nursing, but ultimately graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts in the field of Social Work, and went on to work at Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Maine. She also volunteered throughout her life including; Women’s Auxiliary in NY, St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bangor, Altrusa and her local church.

Her greatest joy was her family. She loved well. She was always there for her children, grandchildren, siblings and cousins. She reflected the love of her Savior in all she did. She would be heard saying so often, “Love you, always and forever.” She faithfully lived out these words.

She is survived by four sons, David G. Bowie and his wife, Patsy, of Lucerne-in-Maine; Richard S. Bowie of Orono and his significant other, Becky Spangle; Robert M. Bowie and his wife, Lori, of Orono and James J. Bowie and wife, Debbie, of Orono; one daughter, Cheryl L. and her husband, Glenn Chalkley, of Corinth; and grandchildren: Christopher, Justin, Jeremy, Cameron, Thomas, Emily, Aidan, Mae, Joshua, Elliana, Belle, Riley and Owen, and her dear sister, Ruth, and brother Bill.

Lois’ life will be celebrated at Calvary Chapel, 154 River Road, Orrington, at 10:00 AM on Monday. December 12th and then her earthly body will be placed next to that of her beloved husband Jerry at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
