VEAZIE - Lois Ann “Bootsie” Holmes, 85, died peacefully at her home on July 11, 2019 , with her husband and children at her side. She was born on September 5, 1933, in Orono, Maine, the daughter of Lloyd and Lucille (DeGrass) Chetley.
A longtime resident of Orono, in recent years she lived in Myrtle Beach, SC and Raymond, New Hampshire before returning to her beloved Maine. After retiring from the University of Maine Bookstore, Lois enjoyed her time traveling and spending time with her family. She was a loving , devoted, and deeply cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved the frequent large family gatherings and was the life of every party. She was an animal lover and enjoyed the companionship of her cocker spaniel Cassie for many years. She also had a wonderful sense of humor that will be missed and remembered fondly by family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Jean Chavis and her beloved son, Wayne Alan Chetley. Surviving in addition to her devoted husband, Alfred Holmes of Veazie, is her daughter, BJ Rioux-MacAdie and husband Geoff, of Myrtle Beach, SC., sons Curt Holmes and partner Margaret Weigang of Winterport, Kent Holmes and wife Alice, of Enfield, NH.; cherished grandchildren , Heather Hinds, Mathew Merrill, Christian Merrill, Joshua Roberts, Mhairi Holmes and Cameron Holmes; great-grandchildren Donovan Merrill, MacKenzie Merrill and Carson Merrill; two brothers, Warren Chetley of Carlsbad, CA, and Calvin Heffington and wife Barbara of Naples; two sisters, Judy Lennon of Ft. Meyers, FL., and Pam Cemodanovs and husband George of Farmington; several aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews, and many friends from Maine, New Hampshire, and South Carolina.
A celebration of her life will be held privately by her family. In lieu of flowers she requested that a donation in her memory be made to St. Judes Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN. 38105 , Anah Shrine Children’s Hospital, 1404 Broadway, Bangor, ME. 04401 or the Bangor Humane Society 693 Mt. Hope Ave., Bangor, ME. 04401, organizations she faithfully supported.
