HERMON –Louis F. “Buzz” LaChance, 71, died March 16, 2014 at a Bangor hospital. He was born Oct. 2, 1942 in Bangor, the oldest child of J. Dominique and Ruth (Webber) LaChance.
He attended St. Mary’s School, MCI, John Bapst, and Bangor High School, graduating in 1961. Buzz drove truck all over the country for several years. He opened a gas station in Bangor but closed it when gas went to 29¢ a gallon stating: “no one will pay this price”. He opened Pine Tree Machine in 1985, specializing in building engines and was very respected for his work. Buzz was a member of the Hermon Town Council for many years, plowing the town roads for 10 years. He was a former member of all Masonic Bodies and Anah Shriners Keystone Kops. At the time of his death he was Nobel Grand of Triumph Lodge #119 Odd Fellows of Hermon and President of Hungry Hollow 76ers, Snowmobile Club of Levant. Buzz lived to tease everyone and play cards at Odd Fellows and playing dominoes with a lifelong friend, Milton Dysart and his wife, Betty.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lelia (King) LaChance; a son, Daniel whom he was so proud of; granddaughter, Ashley who was the love of his life; cousin, Sheila Hartt who he thought of as a sister and her husband, Delmont; sister-in-law, Brenda Stilphen; brother-in-law, Louis King and his wife, Edith; adopted grandchildren: T R McLeod, Marissa McLeod Brown and many friends who have helped him through his last difficult months; he greatly appreciated each and every one and loved them all very much including his beloved dog Honey.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 11am to 1pm Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor where funeral services will be held 12 noon Thursday, March 20 with the Rev. Matthew Ward, senior pastor of the Charleston Pentecostal Church, officiating. Friends may also call 11am until time of service Thursday. Spring interment will be in the Pine Tree Cemetery, Hermon. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor immediately following the service Thursday.
