Bangor – Lucille M. Sprague, wife of the late Robert V. Sprague passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013, in Bangor. She was born July 4, 1918, in Bangor, the daughter of the late Hamlin and Marguerite (Gardner) Maddocks.
Lucille graduated from Brewer High School in 1937 and the University of Maine in 1941. She taught in Machias, Woodland, and Brunswick. She lived most of her life in Bangor where she was a member of All Souls Congregational Church for over 60 years. She was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority, the Athene Club, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Society of Mayflower Descendants. She was past president of the Quipus Club.
Lucille is survived by one son, Jonathan and his wife, Connie of Bangor; a daughter Lisa (Sprague) Gurney and her husband James of Phoenix Arizona; four grandchildren, Kathleen (Sprague) Garner and her husband Luke of Rockwall Texas, Benjamin Sprague and his wife Malorie of Bangor, Leslie (Gurney) Lane and her husband Nick, and James Gurney all of Phoenix; and three great grandchildren, Kate and Owen Garner of Rockwall, and Clover Lane of Phoenix; as well as by several nieces and nephews and two sisters-in-law, Virginia Dogherty of Augusta and Mildred Sprague of Farmington, Connecticut. She was predeceased by two sisters, Avice Dogherty and Elaine Nauman.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call from 5-7 pm, Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where her life will be celebrated 11 am Friday, August 2, 2013, with the Rev., Dr. James L. Haddix, pastor and teacher OF All Souls Congregational Church officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
