SEARSPORT — Lucy Annie (Moody) Whiting passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024, surrounded by family, and is now in the arms of our Lord and Savior. She was 87 years old.

Lucy was born April 26, 1936, in Searsport, to Frederick C. Moody and Eva B. Moody. She was raised in Searsport and graduated with the Searsport High School Class of 1955. Lucy worked at Truitt Brothers, Bangor Savings Bank and the United States Postal Service, where she helped customers as a window clerk. She retired from the United States Postal Service in July 1998, after 30 years of service.

Lucy was an avid reader, letter writer and knitter, making hats for newborn babies for several years and thousands of mittens for Searsport Elementary School and for Christmas family charities. She was known to send letters, birthday cards and holiday cards to family, friends, extended relatives and pen pals multiple times a week, sharing her words of wisdom and providing support and prayers to many. Lucy supported several charities throughout her life. She loved her family, extended family, and friends. She was a truly loving and giving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, niece, auntie, great-auntie, great-great-auntie and friend to many. She was loved by them all for her warmth, patience, love, acceptance and understanding. Most especially, she was loved by her husband, her beloved daughters (aka the 4Js), grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents, Frederick C. Moody and Eva B. (Evans) Moody; her brother, Frederick C. Moody; her sister, Joan R. Seekins (Pearley); and her beloved daughter, Joyce M. Weaver.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Frank H. Whiting of Searsport; her three daughters, Janice R. Whiting-Bucklin (and husband Benjamin) of Belmont, Jackie L. Joy (and husband David) of Windham and Jillene F. Whiting of Searsport; her son-in-law, Paul W. Weaver of Winterport; her granddaughters, Nicole E. Joy (and husband Christopher Albrecht), Sara E. Ballard (and husband Greg) and Erica L. Joy; her grandsons, Craig A. Weaver (and wife Kaitlyn), Benjamin W. Bucklin and Jacob A. Bucklin; her great-grandchildren, Terry Brian Worcester, Arianna Worcester, Maximilian Ballard and Lillian Ballard; her sisters, Gloria J. Hall (and husband Ralph) and Rhonda F. Hutchins (and husband Frederick); her brothers, Jerry L. Moody, Raymond F. Moody (and wife Cynthia) and Ronald H. Moody (and wife Eva); and many cherished extended family members and friends.
