Mabel Jacobs

July 28, 1925 — February 12, 2014

BREWER - Mabel “Betty” Jacobs passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 12, 2014 in Brewer. She was a 1943 graduate of Brewer High School and married the late Jim Jacobs in 1945 taking up residence in North Bucksport. While there, she raised a family of three sons, John, Jeff and Tom and went on to assist her husband with managing the Longview Lumber Company before retiring to Harborside in 1985. She was known for her very generous nature and always had concern for her family and others. She also enjoyed music as the result of her heritage as the daughter of a Bangor Orchestra leader, Arthur Rowe and his wife Mellie. Her other interests included painting, gardening and cooking. Many people gravitated to her home because of her good cooking, hospitality and warmth.
Upon Jim’s passing in 2000 Betty returned to her home town of Brewer where she maintained a home on Parkway North and was a resident at the Woodlands Senior Living Center. Even in her final years her generosity continued as she often provided small gifts to her fellow residents. Together with her husband Jim they created the Jacobs Family Charitable Trust. The world was a better place for her kind disposition.
She is survived by her three sons, their wives Barbara, Catherine and Julie; grandchildren Philip, Robert, Angela, Sean, and Michael Jacobs and Hanna Pickering, Christy Harvey and Ryan McCannelll; she also has five great grandchildren. She is survived by her brother Arthur Rowe and his wife Dot as well as several nieces and nephews.
