BANGOR – Madeline E. Kenney (Durant), 88, passed away April 7, 2020, at an Orono healthcare facility. She was born June 5, 1931, in Brownville Junction, the daughter of Leroy and Pauline (Giberson) Durant.
Madeline graduated from Brewer High School, Class of 1949. She worked as a dry cleaner for 20 years and then with the Bangor School Department for another 10 years. Madeline loved listening to music turned up loud and dancing. She also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, knitting hats, scarfs and mittens for everyone, and sewing quilts, curtains, pillows, and dolls. Madeline’s greatest joy was her family. She loved getting together for holidays, birthdays and summer cookouts. She was happiest when reading to and playing cards and boards games with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren anytime they were over, which was often.
In addition to her parents, Madeline was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Ronald Kenney, and brothers, Norman “Jack” Durant, and Richard “Ricky” Durant. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Green of Bangor, Karen Mathews and husband, Bruce of Cherryfield, Constance Gilbert of Sacramento, CA; granddaughters, Nicole Townsend of Bangor, Erica Bassi of Bangor; great-grandchildren, Michael Bassi of Bangor, Megan Bassi of South Portland; a brother, Erwin Durant and wife, Ruth of Glenburn; and a sister, Norma “Jill” VanDorne of Neosho, MO.
A graveside service will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor, at a date and time to be announced later in the spring.
