Margaret Emma Babb, 88, died November 14, 2022, at home surrounded by her loving family. Margaret was born at home on February 7, 1934. She was the third child of Roland Cornish and Elizabeth (Sheloski) Cornish, of Bowdoin, Maine.
Margaret loved school, attending elementary years in Bowdoin. She attended Brunswick High School and graduated with honors in 1952. While in School, she drove the town’s high school students in her Dad’s bus. Margaret joined the Order of the Eastern Star, a Masonic appendant body open to both men and women. She spent her high school summers in the New Hampshire lake region, as a housekeeper, cook, and chauffeur for Dr. Goodrich and his daughters.
After high school, Margaret attended the CMGH School of Nursing in Lewiston. She was active in student government, representing her hospital in the Annual Student Nurse Convention. Margaret continued through her life as an avid reader, an excellent student, graduating second in her nursing school class. After graduation, Margaret started her career and was scheduled for specialized training as an OR nurse, but elected on February 17th,1956 to marry her secret love, Dick, who was a teacher in the Bowdoin school system. She worked at the local hospital while Dick went to graduate school.
After many months of trying, Margaret gave birth to the first of her ten children. Margaret and Dick moved to Hermon, ME. It was the perfect fit for the family and a great town of wonderful people. Margaret went back to work when her youngest child was four years old. Margaret worked over 50 years as a registered nurse in the Bangor area.
Margaret and Dick spent parts of winter in their Florida home starting in 1990. There she played Bingo, Cribbage, and took up golf at age 68. She broke 100 due to great chipping and putting. Despite her many friends, both social and professional, her main focus was always on her children and her husband. In her declining years, she still managed to keep her husband alive and kicking until his death in 2020. He was a lucky man.
