Margaret Carlisle Speirs passed away on December 10, 2021.
Born in Bangor, Maine on October 12, 1924, Margaret was the daughter of Maud Davis Carlisle and George T. Carlisle, Jr.
Margaret grew up in Bangor, Maine and attended Bangor public schools. She is a graduate of Trinity College in Washington, D.C. and The University of Maine where she earned a Master of Library Science (MLS) degree. Margaret was employed as a librarian at Husson University and Eastern Maine Medical Center.
Margaret is survived by her son Garrett D. Speirs III of Bangor, her daughter Julia Speirs Brett and husband William J. Brett of Westwood, Massachusetts, her son Stephen C. Speirs of Bangor, and her son-in-law James N. Stevens of Silverdale, Washington. Also survived by three grandchildren: Moira Brett Hardesty and husband Leonard Hardesty of Chester, New Jersey, Sarah Brett of Boston, Massachusetts, and William C. Brett of New York, NY. Margaret is also survived by her great grandson William I. Brett, great granddaughter Anne M. Hardesty, and many nieces and nephews.
Margaret is predeceased by her husband Garrett D. Speirs, Jr. of Bangor, Maine and her daughter Barbara Speirs Stevens of Silverdale, Washington. Also, predeceased by brothers George D. Carlisle and wife Elizabeth Mason, Norman D. Carlisle and wife Pauline Campbell, John D. Carlisle, Robert Carlisle and wife Geraldine Williams, Charles F. Carlisle and wife Patricia Pozzy, and by sisters Mary Carlisle Hilton and husband William Hilton, Ruth Carlisle Robert and husband Randolph Robert, and brother-in-law Robinson Speirs and wife Elizabeth Higgins, and sister-in-law Prudence Speirs Virgin and husband Howard Virgin.
