Margaret Thurber

February 15, 1945 — October 11, 2013

BANGOR - Margaret A. Thurber, 68, wife for 29 years to Reid Thurber, died October 11, 2013, surrounded by her loved ones, after a brief battle with cancer. She was born February 15, 1945 in Camden, N.J. daughter of Arthur and Anna Ottesen.

She worked at Westgate Manor and Brewer Convalescent Center for many years. Margie was a past member of the Eagles Club of Brewer, where she was actively involved with her husband, Reid, in fundraising projects for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Margie loved ceramics and taught classes for many years, which brought her much joy. She cherished the friendships she made there, many of which continued throughout her life. She also looked forward to family get togethers, and enjoyed crocheting, bingo, scrapbooking, talking on the phone with friends and recently reaching out to friends and family through facebook. Sunday afternoons became something that she looked forward to watching football, especially the Patriots, with her husband. Margie had a beautiful smile, which she gave readily and was always quick to praise or give encouragement to her children and grandchildren and loved them unconditionally. She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary's Catholic Church.

She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her husband Reid, of Bangor; four children, David Green Sr. and his fiancé Linda, Russell Green and his wife Denise, Kelly (Green) Cassum and her husband Randy, all of Bangor, Michael Pelkey and his wife, Leslie of Hampden; 12 grandchildren, David Green Jr., Erica Green, Taryn Green, Nichole Plain, Russell Green, McKenzie Green, Mikaela Cassum, Skylar Cassum, Miah Cassum, Brevin Pelkey, Blake Pelkey, Brennan Pelkey; family friend and grandson at heart Alec Coleman Pray; three great grandchildren, Carson Green, Tyler Plain and Taylor Plain; brother and sisters in law; Peggy Lavoie, Bob and Rosalie Thurber, George and Norma Thurber, Richard Thurber; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Barbara McGrath, Donna Boudreau and Gina Conners. She also touched the lives of many others, young and old, making many lasting friendships throughout her life. Margie was predeceased by a son, Gary Pelkey Jr. and a brother, Bill Ottesen.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-8 p.m. Tuesday October 15, 2013 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a service will be held 1 pm. Wednesday October 16, 2013. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery immediately following. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St. after the service.
