MARGARET “PEGGY” SUE VAN PEURSEM
BREWER
Peggy Van Peursem, 65, passed away surrounded by a family of loved ones at East Side nursing home, Sunday, January 7, 2024. She was born October 12, 1958, the daughter of Laurence G. and M. Patricia (Connelly) Van Peursem, Sr.
Peggy graduated from Brewer High School, Class of 1977 where she will be remembered not only for her outgoing personality but also for her accomplishments in flag football and track, having run in the CanUSA Races. She continued her education obtaining a Bachelor's degree in nursing, a calling where Peggy spread her wings and flourished. She was an unstoppable advocate for patients in her care. Her diverse career enabled her to help patients in various healthcare facilities such as EMMC, DaVita, ME Veteran’s Home, St Joseph’s, and most recently Ross Manor.
Surviving are her brothers; Laurence G. Van Peursem Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Bangor and Robert Van Peursem and his wife Mary of Phoenix, AZ, her cousins Margo Barry Grant and her husband Rod of Brewer; Frederick Barry, Jr. and his wife, Donna of Orrington, “seesters”Janice Tash Nichols Noble of Colorado and Corinne Van Peursem of Acton; and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her special friends and “work family”, the nurses who shared her love and laughter, especially Jeanne England, Cathy Steeves, Karissy Martin and Sheila Richardson who remained by her side.
In addition to her parents, Peg was predeceased by her brother, William Van Peursem, Sr. of Bangor, cousin William C. Barry of Wells and her longtime companion, Philip Banks of Brewer.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, January 12, 2024 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2024 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 531 North Main St. Brewer. The Rite of Committal will be held in the spring at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer.
The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the parish hall, following the mass. Those who wish to remember Peg in a special way may make gifts in her memory to the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt. Hope Ave, Bangor.
