Marilyn Cotton Etchison, 89, passed away at 4 AM on April 19th, 2024 at her home in Avalon Village, Hampden, Maine, surrounded by her family and caregivers, after a brief illness. She was born October 18, 1934, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the daughter of Dr. Perry Everingham Cotton and Evelyn (Fisher) Cotton.
Marilyn grew up in Elwood, Indiana. She graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana in 1956 and earned her master's degree from Butler University in Indianapolis in 1971. She married Dallas Franklin Etchison and they enjoyed 65 years of marriage together, first on their farm in Tipton County, Indiana for 50 years and built a second home in Maine in 2005. She taught high school English, speech, and debate, and directed plays. Marilyn was a devoted mother to Diana Etchison Prescott, also of Hampden, and Kathleen Etchison, of Manassas, Virginia. She made friends wherever she went and was an incredibly optimistic person.
In addition to her husband, Marilyn is survived by daughters, Diana Prescott and husband, David, and Kathleen Etchison and husband, Thomas Andahl; grandchildren, Rachel, Meredith, and Eleanor Prescott and Connor and Marta Andahl; as well as her numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her six sisters, Jo Ann Seright, Nancy Jane Hill, Carol Fisher Cotton Frye, Joyce Cotton Ruby, Alice Marie Knotts and Linda Evelyn Speer.
The family would like to thank the many devoted caregivers and medical professionals who have cared for her and assisted the family over the years.

A celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held in Tipton County, Indiana the weekend of October 18th, 2024 on what would have been her 90th birthday. Interment will be at Tetersburg Cemetery, Indiana.
