Marilyn Lois “Young” Holyoke
Marilyn L. Holyoke, 88, died peacefully November 12, 2021 at her home in Dedham surrounded by her family. She was born May, 11, 1933 to Sherley and Cora (Johnson) Young and grew up on Bald Mountain in Dedham. She attended Brewer High School and was working as a waitress in Brewer when she met her lifelong sweetheart, John “Pete” Holyoke and married in December of 1949. They enjoyed 70 years of a wonderful life together before Pete predeceased her in May of 2020. Marilyn was a loving and talented wife and mother, living in Brewer while raising four children, and then retiring and moving to Moulton Pond, Dedham to live out their lives. She loved to travel and they had four dream vacations to Alaska together as well as several trips on her own to family near and far. She was an incredibly talented lady who cooked and canned Pete’s garden vegetables, and hand painted his wooden creations from the shop. She was always eager to show off their shelves and shelves of provisions. Marilyn was an artist and painted lovely crafts she shared with many. She was the longest standing member of the Dedham Congregational Church and helped them over the years with her donations to the annual craft fair. Always one to speak her mind and share her thoughts with friends and family, people loved “Aunt Marilyn’s” direct approach and freely given advice. She was truly one of a kind and loved deeply by four children, Donald Holyoke and wife, Bonnie, Robin Holyoke, Kelly Fitzpatrick and husband Greg., Mark Holyoke and wife Jamie, twelve grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, several special nieces and nephews, and many many friends.
Th Holyoke family would like to thank Northern Light Hospice and all the caregivers, friends and family who helped make their mom's wish to live out her life at home come true. She was comfortable and happy and surrounded by love and compassion.
A private graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer.
