Marilyn Stockson

July 7, 1927 — June 1, 2021

Marilyn M. Stockson, 93 passed away peacefully on June 1, 2021, at her home with her daughter, Deborah and son-in-law Dr George Anastos at her side. She was born July 17, 1927, in Houlton, Maine.

She graduated from Patten Academy Class of 1945. She attended nursing school at Houlton Memorial and Bangor General Hospitals. She married William (Bill) Stockson in 1947. They were married for 61 years until Bill passed away in 2008. Marilyn was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bangor for more than 70 years. She worked as the office manager for Dr William Cutler in Brewer for more than 30 years, volunteered at Eastern Maine Medical Center for many years and a member of the Bangor Garden Club. Marilyn found “the good in any situation.” Compassionate, caring, and thoughtful were the words that best describe how she lived her life.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by; her sister, Marjorie Lyons and two stepbrothers, Wayne, and Dwight Moody. Surviving, are her daughter Deborah S Anastos and her husband George, Richboro, PA. Her two granddaughters, Jessica A Durham and her husband Sam, Seattle, WA, and Julie A Mount and her husband Christopher, Haymarket, VA. Her special and caring stepsister Sheila Miller and her husband, Gary, Orrington. ME. Five great grandchildren, Hendrix, Alexis, Jameson, Parker, and Harper. Nine loving nieces and nephews; David, Sally, Darrell, Lloyd, Sharon, Evangeline, Charles, Virginia, and Gary. Marilyn’s greatest joys were her family, church choir, and volunteering at the church. She enjoyed every minute she had with her loving grandchildren and family. She was fortunate to travel the US and outside the US with them. She volunteered many hours at her church’s soup kitchen and social groups. Marilyn was blessed with a special group of friends and neighbors that supported her desire to remain in her own home to the end, the Family would like to thank; Shelia, Gary, Peggy, Al, Carolyn, Mary Ellen, and Trish that made this possible.

A final internment and memorial service for family and close friends will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor on July 17, 2021. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to First Baptist Church of Bangor, 56 Center Street, Bangor ME 04401 in her memory. The Family wishes to thank the Hospice Team at St Joseph’s Health Care Foundation for their exceptional care, compassion, and support. They went above and beyond to make her final days easier.
