Mark George Coffin, age 67, a long-time resident of Hampden, Maine, passed away unexpectedly at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bangor on September 28, 2024, after a brief illness.
Mark was a Mainer through and through, born in Millinocket on June 29, 1957. He attended parochial schools in Maine through 5th grade, graduated from Hampden Academy in 1976, and obtained a degree from Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute in 1978. He was an Eagle Scout. Until his recent hospitalization, Mark was employed by Nickerson & O’Day for many years as one of their most valued carpenters and a favored coworker. A lifelong construction worker and finish carpenter, he was involved with many commercial and residential projects in Maine from Dover Foxcroft to Bar Harbor to Orono and Augusta. Mark took pride in his work and had an incredible work ethic.
Mark was a loyal and thoughtful brother and brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and great uncle to his family who will miss him very much. He was an especially caring son, supporting and visiting his mother daily during the years she was at a local nursing home prior to her death. His Catholic faith was strong, and he was a regular communicant at St. Matthew’s Church in Hampden. A lifelong bachelor, he especially loved being with his nieces and their children, and the children of his cousins, who remember his willingness to take them all for boat rides or water skiing at the family camp on Green Lake. “Puttering” was his favorite hobby, which ranged from painting the family camp to building furniture for his family. He also was a committed Sugarloafer, holding a season pass for many years.
Mark is survived by his brother, Philip Coffin of Carrabassett Valley and his wife Susan Peck, his nieces Rachel Coffin (Mark Murphy), Julia Coffin (Glenn Barnes) and Emma Coffin (Merritt Logan) and their children Grace, Colin, Maeve, and Augusta, and his cousins Jim and Stephanie Mooney of Ocala, Florida, Pat and Debbie Mooney of Millinocket, and Jenny Mackenzie of Hampden and John Mooney of Bangor as well as their children and grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call from 5-8PM, Thursday, October 3rd, 2024, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden.
