CARMEL - Mark Alan Holmes passed away on August 10, 2023 from complications of ALS. Born in Bangor, Maine, he spent most of his childhood in South Hope, Maine, and his adult life in Carmel, Maine, where he passed away. At age 9 he joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and he developed a deep and abiding faith in Christ that defined the rest of his life. In early adulthood he served a two-year mission for the church in Texas, and he went on to work in countless church service callings until his death. Many of these callings involved teaching the youth and community outreach.
At 21 he moved to Rexburg, Idaho to pursue a degree in Computer Science. While there he met the love of his life, Lynda Holmes, and after marrying they had three children: Anthony, Jamie and Hannah.
Mark had a deep love for the Maine wilderness and spent as much time as he could outside, camping, fishing and canoeing. He was known for sharing that joy with friends and family. Mark had an enterprising spirit and formed many businesses. He is survived by his parents, Bernard and Ramona Holmes; his wife, Lynda Holmes; his children, Anthony (Cassye) Holmes, Jamie Jones, and Hannah (Robert) Anderson; and his siblings, Tracy, Justin, Page, and Angie. He was preceded in death by his youngest brother, Chad. He was the loving grandfather to Eden, Gavin, Jayelle, Nanette, Aleya, Ezra, Nicholas, Jacqueline, Samuel, Hazel and Esther. To all who knew him, he wished to share his love for his family, his respect for the earth, and his deep and abiding conviction of the eternal love of God.
His memorial service will be held 11AM Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 639 Grandview Ave, Bangor, ME. To celebrate his life, after the service there will be a traditional Holmes Pie Night: "bring a pie, share a pie” at the church. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
