Eddington - Martin E. Black "Blackie", 91, passed away November 15, 2023 with his brother, James and sister, Gloria by his side. He was born August 3, 1932, the son of Ora F. Black Sr. and Mary (Hughes) Black.
Martin graduated from John Bapst Memorial High School. In 1950, he joined the Marines where he was stationed in Korea and Japan. After an honorable discharge as Staff Sergeant he returned home from the military and went on to work in the construction field.
He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 4 in Boston. He had a passion for vintage cars, collecting many over the years.
Martin is survived by his three children, Donald Black of Bangor, Kim Green of Bangor, and Daniaelle Moniz of Glenburn; Brother, James Black and sister, Gloria Black of Eddington. "Blackie" had a large family including many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and two special great grandchildren, Isabelle and Emerson whom he loved spending time with. In addition to his parents, Martin was predeceased by son, Kenneth Black; three brothers, Ora F. Black Jr., Edward A. Black, and Joseph L Black; seven sisters, Mary Frances Plummer, Vera F. Kelleher, Irene A. Hull, Marilyn C. Gallant, Elizabeth M. McCullouh, Patricia M. Mills, and Madeline St. Pierre.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 27, 2023, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John's Catholic Church, 217 York Street, Bangor. The Rite of Committal will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the Parish Hall immediately following the Mass.
