Martin “The King” Allen Gonya III
Bangor
Martin A. Gonya III passed away January 16th, 2023, surround by his family after a long, hard fought battle. He may have been young, but his body was tired and it is a bittersweet goodbye. He was born May 1st, 1987, in Malden, MA, the son of Martin A. Jr and Regina M. (Silva) Gonya.
Martin also known by his family as Bimma, attended Revere High School and continued his education at Lynn Vocational Technical School. He was incredibly intelligent and went on to become a mechanical engineer and welder. He was known to be always tinkering with anything with a motor, from once putting a motorcycle engine into a golf cart, to later helping restoring a 1969 SS Chevy Nova with his father. He enjoyed going to car shows, attending drag races, and enjoyed anything with motors involved. Martin had a great sense for them and could put a small motor together when he was only 7 years old. He was known to be a bit straightforward, letting you know exactly what he was thinking without hesitation, but he was always one to make you laugh. He had a great sense of humor and was quite the jokester, as well as a wonderful story teller. Martin was first and foremost a family person. He would do anything to help his family, no matter what. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his dad, watching movies together and making commentary. They were compared to Statler and Waldorf the way they would banter back and forth. He will be deeply missed by all he touched.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by; his siblings; Jennifer Mondello and her husband, John; and Christopher Gonya and his fiancée, Tori Rivera; his great niece and nephew, Lily Sperba and Dante Cechura; many great aunts, uncles, cousins and longtime friends. He is predeceased by his grandparents; Helen M. and Dale Lundquist; Emily M. and Martin A. Gonya Sr; his aunt, Lori Gonya; and great grandmother, Mary Duffy.
A service will be held 2 PM, Saturday, February 4th, 2023, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. Those who wish to remember Martin in a special way may make donations to the American Diabetes Foundation, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023.
