Bangor - Marvin Roy Preyer, 80, died unexpectedly in his home on Jan. 27, 2023. He was born in Memphis, Tennessee on Oct. 18, 1942, the son of Leroy Preyer and Ethel Mae Robinson.
Marvin lived in Memphis until the age of 17, when he joined the US Army. Several years later, while on assignment in Germany, met Catherine Rudnicki, who would become his wife.
After 22 years of military service, including several tours of Vietnam, Marvin retired in 1981. He then settled with Catherine in his hometown of Memphis, to help care for his mother and begin raising their family. He went on to further his education, earning his Associate of Applied Science Degree from Shelby State College. Marvin and Catherine later moved their family to Maine, where Marvin spent the remainder of his life.
Marvin loved to spend his free time fishing, always eager to trudge through the woods to find a potential new fishing hole. Later in life, Marvin made regular donations to those in need, and dedicated his free time to the worship of the Lord. He regularly attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church as well as Destiny Worship Center in Bangor. He enjoyed calling and catching up with his friends and loved ones across the country.
In addition to being survived by Catherine, Marvin is survived by his son, Paul Preyer and his wife, Rose Ann, daughter, Ginette Seamans and her husband, Shawn, son, Marcus Preyer and his wife, Elizabeth; nine grandchildren; three brothers, Leroy Preyer and his wife, Judy, James Preyer and his wife, Sylvia, and Homer Preyer; three sisters, Minnie Clayton and her husband, Lawrence, Elizabeth Davis, and Linda Taylor; aunt, Edna Slaughter. In addition to his parents, Marvin was predeceased by his sisters, Gertrude Preyer, Ada Watson, Ellen Sparks, and brother, Eddie Neely.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor immediately following the service. Interment will be in the Maine Veterans Cemetery, Augusta.
