Mary Ann Libby

July 29, 1950 — September 23, 2023

HERMON - On the first day of autumn, Mary Ann Libby, 73, passed away following a long illness that she met with valiance and grace. Mary Ann was born in Bangor, Maine on July 29, 1950, to former Bangor Police Captain, F. Carr "Mike" McInnis and Eleanor (Higgins) McInnis.

Mary Ann graduated from John Bapst Memorial High School in 1968 and went on to study at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Portland, Maine. After graduating from Nursing School in 1971, Mary Ann left her hometown of Bangor, Maine to travel west. Mary Ann lived in such places as Salt Lake City, Utah and San Jose, California. It was in California where she purchased her beloved 1977 Datsun 280Z, which she later drove cross country back home. After returning to Maine, Mary Ann was set up on a date with a former John Bapst Memorial High School, Class of 1968, classmate Dr. R. Joseph “Joe” Libby, DMD. In 1983, Mary Ann and Joe married and in 1986 welcomed their daughter, Lindsay. After the birth of their daughter, Mary Ann put her nursing career on hold but in 1991 she returned to the medical field as a dental assistant at her husband’s dental practice.

Mary Ann was a genuine and warm person who loved to care for others throughout her life. She had an infectious laugh, and she could light up a room with her smile. She will be greatly missed and remembered as someone who asked for so little, but gave so much.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Joe; her daughter; Lindsay and significant other Caleb of Winslow; her grandson, Oliver; cousins, James L. McNamara Sr., Judith McNamara, Sheila Bourbon, Patricia Jarrell; in-laws, Norma McInnis, and James & Linda Libby; nieces/nephews Amy, Michael, Matthew, Mike, Steven, Ryan, Alex, Jennifer, Nicole, Kristen, Kelsey and fifteen great-nieces/nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Michael J. McInnis, cousin, Charles F. McNamara; and parents, Eleanor and F. Carr McInnis. Her family would like to thank the staff of St. Joseph’s Hospital, Northern Light Hospital, Northern Light Gastroenterology, Portland Gastroenterology, Visiting Angels, Dirigo Pines and Gentiva Hospice, who took exceptional care of her during her illness.
