Mary Etta Cyr, 69, died January 16th, 2024, at home surrounded by her family, after a long battle with cancer. She was born December 6th, 1954, in Dexter Maine, the daughter of Clifton J. and Anna Mae (High) Field.
Mary Etta graduated from Dexter High School in the Class of 1972. Mary Etta had a deep love for horses that started at a young age. By 14 years old she owned her own horse. Through the years Mary Etta would go on to raise and train many great horses. She loved to spread her extensive knowledge of horses, and she is very well known across the state of Maine as a caring and giving horsewoman. She was known as an unofficial vet, for the help and advice she would give that often led to the saving of a horse’s life. She shared this passion and love of horses with her daughter Tanya, granddaughter Hailey, and love of her life Richard Cyr. He called her his rock star, as when they went somewhere, she would often be recognized and strike up a conversation.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Richard Real Cyr, are her daughters, Tanya Marie Ronco and her husband, Brad, of Carmel, Christine Buzzell of Levant; granddaughter, Hailey Ronco of Carmel; sister, Germaine Bouchard of Oakland; brothers, Harold Field Sr. of Kingfield, Eugene Field and his wife, Patti, of Kingsport, TN. In addition to her parents, Mary Etta was predeceased by best friend, Jackie Day.
Mary Etta did not wish for a formal funeral service, but a memorial barrel race will be held at Apple Hill Stables in Levant, on July 27th, 2024. We invite family and friends of Mary Etta to come participate or watch, as people partake in one of her favorite activities of barrel racing. Those who wish to remember Mary Etta in a special way may make donations to smaller horse clubs in Maine such as, North Country Riding Club, and Sebasticook Riding Club, or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
