Mary Lou (Webb) Simpson, 89, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2021, at home with family by her side. She was born August 26, 1931, in Bangor, the daughter of Leo F. and Dorothy (Philips) Webb.
Mary Lou graduated from Bangor High School in the Class of 1949. She then received an Associates Degree from Westbrook Junior College. Mary Lou was a home maker throughout her life and raised her five wonderful children. She regularly attended St. John’s Catholic Church in Bangor. Mary Lou was a longtime member of the Penobscot Valley Country Club and even got a hole in one on the fourth hole one year. Mary Lou lived in Bangor all her life and for 25 years she and Bob were snowbirds living in Indiantown, Florida, where they met many wonderful friends. Mary Lou enjoyed her crafts and was a very talented painter, jewelry maker and knitter. After the loss of her son she co-founded Safe Place, a support group for suicide survivors which she was very proud of. More than anything she will be remembered for being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and great-grandmother. She cherished her family more than anything. Her strength and compassion were beyond admirable.
She is survived by her children; son T.J. Simpson of California, son Steve Simpson and wife Joyce of Bangor, son Rob Simpson and wife Nancylee of New Hampshire, daughter Christi Robertson and Al Mosca of Brewer; brother Bill Webb of Naples, Florida; sister-in-law Jackie Cortis of Florida; sister-in-law Cathy Ford of Arizona; her eight grandchildren, Evan Cooper, Christopher and wife Anna, Ryan, Marc, Scott and Connor Simpson, Sarah Cavo and husband Dennis, and Samantha Robertson; four great-grandchildren; and special friends David and Irene Bryant. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband Robert “Bob” Simpson, and a loving son Philip Simpson. The family would like to thank her wonderful neighbors and friends of Longrale Apartments, especially Cathy. Many thanks also to the nurses and staff of EMMC on the 6th floor Cardiac Unit and Northern Light Home Hospice for their passionate care.
A Funeral Liturgy outside of Mass will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, followed by a Rite of Committal at Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor, following the service.
