BREWER – M. Marjorie Plaisted, 88, passed away, June 12, 2016 at a Bangor hospital. Marge was born in Newton, MA, June 5, 1928, the daughter of Roger and Marjorie (Boyd) Plaisted.
In 1931, she moved to Wiscasset from Melrose, MA, and in 1932, her parents relocated the family to Lincolnville. She graduated from Camden High School as Valedictorian in 1945 and was accepted into Colby College. She graduated with a major in French from Colby in 1949, and her senior year served as President of the Women’s Athletic Association. Marge went on to teach Social Studies at Hartland Academy, 1949-51, as well as coaching girls basketball and softball; and later taught physical education, Civics, and English at Ellsworth schools from 1951-74, and coached girls Varsity field hockey, basketball, softball and track. In 1956, Marjorie obtained her Master’s in Education from the University of Maine, Orono, and in 1963, a Certificate of Advanced Study. In 1975, she went to work for the Penobscot County Clerk of Courts Office, and retired in 1977.
In her younger years, Marge enjoyed competitive bowling. She was State Candlepin Class A Champion, State of Maine Doubles Class A Champion, and State of Maine Championship Team. She played on the Ellsworth, Bangor and Brewer Women’s Basketball Team; and enjoyed mountain climbing, jogging, swimming and tennis. In her later years, she was an avid Red Sox, Patriots, Celtic’s and Notre Dame fan, having followed the Red Sox and Notre Dame games on the radio since age 10.
Marjorie was predeceased by her parents; she is survived by her siblings, Christine P. (French) Herbst, of Dothan, AL and Roger Cox Plaisted, and wife, Ruby of Vienna; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dear friend, Beatrice Park, with whom she lived with for over 60 years.
