HUDSON – Mary Dean (Horne) Stokes, 81, went to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on January 8, 2016. She was born April 18, 1934, the daughter of Marvin Wesley and Edith Mignon (McLeod) Horne of Albany, Georgia.
Deanie graduated from Albany High School in 1952, married Marvin Stokes in 1953, spent 35 years in the Washington, D.C. area and moved to Hudson, Maine in 1987. Deanie enjoyed reading, playing the organ, piano, singing as a church soloist and choir member. During an overseas tour with her husband (1974-1977), she established an adult on-post bible study and made many new British and American friends. She also enjoyed traveling in the UK and Europe. Deanie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, artist, and lived a fruitful life. She was a successful gardener who shared her vegetables and flowers with neighbors, friends, family and the needy.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin of Hudson; two daughters, Kathryn L. LaForest and her husband, Jimmy of Hudson, Theresa Ann (Stokes) Ricks of Beckley, WV; one son, Gregory M. Stokes and his wife, Cindy of Levant; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice Rebecca Hand and her husband, Ronald of Brookfield, GA; nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The family would like to give special thanks to EMMC doctors, nurses and staff for their compassionate and professional support.
