HAMPDEN – Matthew McCarthy, 24, went home to with the Lord on April 2, 2015. He was born April 17, 1990, in Bangor, the son of Barry S. and Gail (Leonard) McCarthy. Matt graduated from Hampden Academy, Class of 2008 where he played hockey. He was an avid reader, and especially loved learning about history. Matthew and his dad worked together at Hussey Painting. They were “Best Buddies”, and loved spending time with each other. Matthew is survived by his parents, Barry and Gail McCarthy; his brothers, Joseph Leonard and his wife Julie and their children Stephen, Hannah, and Emily; B.J. McCarthy, and Jamie McCarthy and his wife Joanne and their child Zane; niece Lili; his sister, Jennifer Sewell and her children Shelby, Nicholas, Ethan, and Matthew; grandmothers, Janice McCarthy, and Gloria Leonard; aunts and uncles, Debbie McCarthy, Patty Newey, William Leonard, Debbie Spaulding, Bobby McCarthy, and Donnie McCarthy; many cousins; friends, Kevin Brown, Caleb Miles and Zach Bullock; many other friends. Matt was predeceased by his sister, Ashley McCarthy; grandfathers, Harold McCarthy, and William Leonard Sr. Relatives and friends are welcome to call from 5-7 p.m. Monday April 6, 2015 at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2015, with the Rev. Dick Woehr officiating. Interment will be held later this spring at the Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden. Son know that we love you and you had a heart of Gold that you touched so many in your short 24 years.
