Bangor – Maynard Edmund Gorden, 86, passed away March 27, 2015, at a Bangor healthcare facility. He was born July 14, 1928, in East Readfield the son of the late Harmon and Dorothy (Kierstead) Gorden.
Maynard attended the Newport Church of God and Glad Tidings Church in Bangor. He spent his early years in farming, then at Globe Albany and Carlton Woolen Mill and retired from Digital Equipment Company of Augusta. Maynard will be dearly missed by his family and extended family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Dorothy (Walker) Gorden; four sons, Sherman Gorden and wife Rhonda of Manchester, Ed Gorden and wife Wendy of Wayne, Douglas Gorden and wife Tina of Mt. Vernon, Stewart Gorden of Wiscasset; two beloved grandsons, Joshua and Jason Gorden; a great-grandson, Hunter Gorden of E. Readfield; a beloved step daughter Brenda Atkinson and husband Wendell Thomaston; a beloved step-son Wayne Lavoie and wife Paula of Cape Coral, FL; two step-grandsons, Joseph Webb of S. Thomaston, Andrew Lavoie of Rockland; three step-granddaughters, Jennifer Dennison of S. Thomaston, Jodie Black of Rockland, Sarah Leonardi of Lewisville, TX; eleven step great-grandchildren, Ryan, Aaron and Kaylee Dennison, Dustin, Cadden, Cass, and Shaylynn Lavoie, Austin Bickford, Olivia Spaulding, Emma and Eliza Black; two sisters, Priscilla Gallagher and husband Jerry of Presque Isle, Beverly Allen of New Harford, NY; a brother Dennis Gorden and wife Nancy of Utica, NY; a brother-in-law, Richard Walker and wife Joyce of Bangor; two sister-in-laws, Jean Sample of Vero Beach, FL, Joan Walker of Elkin, NC, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2 pm, Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor Rev. Ron Morris, pastor of Glad Tidings Church, officiating.
