Melvin Knowles

Glenburn – Melvin L. “Bud” Knowles, 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family December 7, 2016. He was born February 26, 1938, in Glenburn, the son of Bertrand C. and June E. (Mower) Knowles.

Bud graduated from Bangor High School, Class of 1956, and in February, 1958 married the love of his life, Lois Ann Alexander. They spent 58 love filled years together. Bud was a volunteer ambulance attendant in Glenburn for many years. He owned and operated Melson Enterprises with Sonny Trundy for 20 years. He was a member of the Levi Rounders Square and Round Dance Club, and Kenduskeag Lodge #137. Bud loved to hunt and fish, and sometimes he just liked to putter. He always liked a good game of cards or cribbage. He loved Ford trucks. In later years he and Lois travelled all over the country in their RV.

The family would like to give a special thank you to June and Orrin Wilson, and Marvin Brawn for their love and support during Bud’s illness. Appreciation is also expressed to the caregivers from Beacon Hospice for their love and care during Bud’s last days.

In addition to his parents, Bud was predeceased by a sister Mildred Allen and her husband Paul, a sister Muriel Hasey and husband Fred, brother Maurice Knowles; brother-in-law Lloyd Richardson; and sister-in-law Phyllis Knowles. He is survived by his loving wife, Lois Ann; daughters Evelyn Caruso and Lori-Ann Knowles; grandson Tyler Olin Emery; siblings Marie Richardson of Levant, Margaret Murray of Bangor, Merton Knowles of Bangor, Milton Knowles of Levant, June Wilson and husband Orrin of Glenburn, Norris Knowles and wife Catherine of Florida, Judy Brawn and husband Marvin of Glenburn, Jacqueline Ellingwood and husband Ralph of Glenburn and Julia Bean and husband Derwood of Glenburn; sister-in-law Maxine Knowles of Bangor; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial reception will be held 12 noon Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor. Following the reception a graveside service will be held at Lakeview Cemetery in Glenburn. Those who wish to remember Bud in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 39 Mechanic Street #100, Westbrook, ME 04092.
