Melvin “Butch” Leonard Schaeffer Jr., 63, died August 7, 2021 at his Winterport home.
Butch was born November 7, 1957 in Baltimore, Maryland to Melvin Leonard Schaeffer Sr. and Eva Josephine Johnson. He was raised in Dundalk, Maryland where he later met the love of his life, his wife of 42 years, Elouise. Together they raised three children. In 1994, they moved to Maine where Butch enjoyed his passions of hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and the great outdoors.
Butch was known for his sense of humor and thoughtful, generous heart. He was truly someone who would give you the shirt right off his back. He enjoyed cooking, canning, and gardening and wasn’t afraid of adding a little spice to the meal. Butch was also a competitive bowler, but his favorite pastime was spent surrounding himself with his grandbabies. “They light up the whole world”, he would say. He was a man of God and his family finds comfort in knowing he is in paradise, free of pain. Luke 23:43
Butch was deeply loved by his wife, Elouise, and his three children, Shannon, Jeremiah, Daniel and daughter-in-law Chloe. He is also survived by his father, Melvin Sr., siblings Sam Poole and his wife Deb, Jeannie Radar, Deb Poole, Chuck Huffman and his wife Kathy, nieces Ashley, April, and nephew Joshua, as well as nine grandchildren: Candace, Capri, Aliviah, Maurice, Anthony, Bryce, Anna, Maddie, and Lucy. He was predeceased by his mother Eva, nephews Little Eddie and Little Gary, and long term friend Scott Huffman.
The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments 4 to 6 pm. Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St. Bangor.
