Michael Barrows

August 29, 1950 — December 15, 2015

Michael “Mike” Frederick Barrows, 65, passed away, December 15, 2015, at a hospice care facility in Merrimack, NH, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born August 29, 1950, in Bangor the son of John and Kathleen (Oxley) Barrows.

Mike graduated from Hampden Academy in the Class of 1968. Following graduation he served his country in the U. S. Air Force from 1969-1972. After his discharge from the military, Mike started working for Portland Glass. He later went on to start his own general contracting company, Barrows Building. He was an exceptional carpenter with exquisite attention to detail. Mike had a love for history with a special interest in the 1960’s and the J.F.K. era. He loved to take long Sunday drives admiring new and old construction, landscaping, and forms of moving water. He was an avid golfer and spent many afternoons at Hermon Golf Course with many close friends. Mikes greatest love was spending time with his family.

He is survived by daughters, Deb McCluskey of Kittery, Julie Leonard and husband Joe of Chester, NH; grandchildren, Kaitlen, Michael, Stephen, Andrew, Hannah, Jennifer, and Emily; brothers, Jerry Barrows of NH, Jim Barrows of Hampden, Jeff Barrows and wife Michele of Satellite Beach, FL, Jack Barrows and wife Theresa of Hampden; a sister, Tami Goldsmith and husband Jerry of Yarmouth; and multiple aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call 6-8 PM, Monday, Dec. 21, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a celebration of life memorial service will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, Dec. 22, with Rev. Carl Schreiber, pastor of the East Orrington Congregational Church, presiding. Interment will be at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
