Michael P. Brooker
BANGOR, ME
An Update on Memorial Services to celebrate the life of Michael P Brooker, 67 years young, who left us on December 22, 2021. His passing followed a valiant battle over the numerous physical effects of Graft vs Host disease resulting from a stem cell transplant received to combat Myelodysplastic Syndrome. He gave it all he had.
Mike graduated from Bangor High School in 1972 and proudly went on in later years to complete his master’s degree at Husson University. There, he continued his love of education and learning by becoming an Adjunct Instructor for many years.
He worked for over 20 years in Customer Service and Meter Management for Bangor Hydro-Electric Company until 2005 when he launched his own business, Grandview Building and Remodeling. Mike took great pride in the work he did and was thrilled to have his son Kris join him, continuing the love of building and working with his hands passed down from his father, Matthew Brooker Sr. Talents also displayed by his brothers Jim and Matt Jr. Mike was proud to know that the Brooker name would continue in Kris and Matthew, his sons who each have established successful businesses.
We are thankful to know that Mike was greeted in heaven by his Father, Matthew Brooker Sr. with his wife Bonnie as well as Lanette Petrie, several of his dear fishing buddies and his beloved Dymitri. We are also confident that he, Bill and Bob were there to greet Jerry Sullivan, his uncle, a few short months ago.
Mike's positive and uplifting spirit of nurturing and love will be missed by so many, but mostly by his family.
He is survived and deeply missed by his mother, Mary (Sullivan) MacBain of Bangor, ME; his brothers Matthew H Brooker Jr. with his wife Diane Prior Brooker of Waterboro, ME, and James J Brooker with his wife Suzanne Hughes Brooker of Veazie, ME. Mike's bigger than life smile will surely be missed.
He’s now looking down over his children; Kristopher D.B. Brooker and his wife Kerri with granddaughters Samantha Karen and Alexandria Faith; Tash, Kerri's sister who held a place of her own in his heart. Matthew M Brooker of Venice, FL.; Elizabeth N Brooker with grandson Cooper of Gardiner, ME; and Mallory Merlino with her husband, Lee of Hyde Park MA.
He would also want to mention his Aunt Mary Ellen Sullivan and thank her for her love and support along with cousins Michael, Mark, and Maureen Sullivan.
His nephews; Luke Dubois and his wife Michaela, Rob Brooker, with his wife Andrea, Justin Ripley and his wife Patricia Cruz, and Alex Brooker (one of his favorite fishing pals). His Nieces; Deanna Novak, and her husband Chris, Sara White, and Myra Brooker. A number of grand nieces and nephews will also remember Mike’s excitement whenever he was able to spend time with them.
His friends are too numerous to name which is a testament to his love of life and the many people on his journey with him. In particular, his loss will be felt by Kim Bailey Brooker, Jennifer and Richard Petrie, Ellen Sweeney Celli, Priscilla Butler, his angel who kept him supplied with her special bread, Joe Giard and his wife April along with their son Michael.
A memorial service will be held at Brookings-Smith Funeral Home, 163 Center St., Bangor ME on Saturday, June 4th at 11:00 A.M. followed by a reception at the adjacent Family Reception Center for those who wish to gather and share memories and offer condolences to the family.
Donations in Mike’s memory should be made to the Jimmy Fund, his true passion in his later years.
