BANGOR - Michael E. Cooper, 61, passed away on April 6, 2015 surrounded by his family and loved ones at Eastern Maine Medical Center after a year-and-a-half battle with cancer. Mike, the son of the late William Parker Cooper, Jr. and Anna Lois Cooper, was born at Châteauroux-Déols Air Base in Déols, France on December 14, 1953. He was raised in Melrose, Mass, and graduated from Pentucket Regional High School in West Newbury in 1972.
He married the love of his life, Bonnie Heather Gordon Cooper, on June 25, 1977 at Hale Park in Newburyport, Mass. They moved to Harpswell in 1990, where they lived until they moved to Bangor in 2000. Mike lived for their two beautiful children, Chandra Leigh, 29, and Michael Edward Jr., 23.
Mike had been the owner of Maine Logistics and Town Taxi in Bangor since March 2005. Mike always had an entrepreneurial spirit. He had other businesses through his life, including a hobby store in Massachusetts, The Toy Soldier, and held conventions for miniature war gaming enthusiasts.
Mike was an avid history buff. He enjoyed painting miniature soldiers for historical war gaming and recreating historic battles. His love for the outdoors was evident in his many hobbies including birding, gardening, sailing with family, and rock hounding with his daughter. In recent years, he enjoyed coaching the Challenger League baseball team in which his son participated.
Mike leaves behind his wife, Bonnie Heather Gordon Cooper; his daughter, Chandra Leigh Cooper Barry and her husband, James Edward Barry; his son, Michael Edward Cooper Jr., his mother, Anna Lois Cooper; his brother William (Bill) Parker Cooper III and his wife Brenda; niece Amy Rene Cooper and her two children, Cynthia and Shannon; nephew William Parker Cooper IV and his wife Amy and their children Ava and William; niece April Anne Cooper and her son Vincent; nephews Wesley Chadwick Cooper and Wyatt Madison Cooper; and sister-in-law LouAnn King Cooper. He is also survived by his work family at Town Taxi.
He was predeceased by his father, William Parker Cooper Jr., and his brother, Daniel John Cooper.
Mike had planned to do the survivor's lap at Eastern Maine Community College's Relay For Life this May. Donations can be made in Mike's memory to Relay For Life.
A memorial service will be held at Pilgrim Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 375 Mount Hope Avenue, Bangor, on Saturday, April 18th at 2 p.m. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
