Michelle Carlisle

July 11, 1970 — June 19, 2016

Michelle “Shelley” L. Carlisle, 45, passed away June 19, 2016, in the arms of her loving family after a short illness. She was born in Bangor on July 11, 1970, the daughter of Robert T. and Lynne (Pullen) Carlisle.

Shelley attended programs at United Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Handicap Center, Bangor Regional Program, and currently attended the Bouchea Center for Learning. She loved people and always enjoyed camping with family and friends. Shelley had a special bond with her brother and he was very protective of her. She loved to swim in her pool and had many birthday pool parties. Stuffed animals were a favorite and numbered in the hundreds. Lemurs were her most favorite since they had long tails to chew. She could thumb through a catalogue page by page and was very upset when Sears & J. C. Penny stop publishing them. Shelley lived at home until she was 25 and then moved to Commonsense Housing’s Kountry Korner. It was a wonderful placement and she made many friends. She charmed everyone with her smile and blue eyes. She met a very special person, Matt Baher, who became her primary caregiver for the next 14 years. They were “best friends”. He would take her to the Humane Society, University Farms, petting zoos, and anywhere else there were animals. The list of caregivers is too long to list but all were an important part of her life. Shelley was always a “daddy’s girl”. They had a very special relationship which included long drives in the middle of the night when we were camping and she wouldn’t sleep and bumpy rides in the truck on the back roads “scouting for deer”.

Shelley was predeceased by her maternal grandparents John and Edna Pullen of Ellsworth, her paternal grandparents, Robert and Janet Carlisle Jr. of Surry, her uncle Donald Pullen of Ellsworth. She was also predeceased by her loving father Robert T. Carlisle III. She is survived by her mother Lynne P. Carlisle of Brewer; a brother Michael Carlisle and wife Joanne and their daughter Zoey of Natick, MA; her aunt Barbara Harmon and husband Albert of Hancock; and several cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments from 1-2 pm Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 S. Main Street, Brewer, where a celebration of life service will be held at 2 pm, with Rev. Grace Bartlett, pastor of the First Congregational Church of Brewer, officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer, following the service. Gifts in her memory may be made to Camp Capella, P.O. Box 552, Holden, ME 04429.
