Mija K. Proctor, 68, a loving and proud mother passed away peacefully surrounded by her children at a Bangor hospital, Feb. 8, 2014, after a valiant fight with stage IV breast cancer. She was born Sept. 16, 1945, in South Korea, the daughter of Bong-in Koo and Kum-Soon Park.
Mija graduated from Kyung Hee University in 1966 with a degree in Economics. She married the love of her life William E. Proctor of Bangor on April 23, 1977. She spent most of her life as a homemaker taking pride in caring for her family. She was also a childcare provider and worked at Macy's. She was a multi-talented person with a passion for gardening, cooking, painting, crafting, knitting and crocheting. She was an avid member of the Korean American Society of Maine.
She is survived by her son, David E. Proctor of Plainville, Mass.; daughter, Jennifer L. Proctor of Natick, Mass.; brothers, Hyun Mo Koo of Thornhill, Ontario, Canada, Eun Mo Koo of Markham, Ontario, Canada and Whan Mo Koo of Gyeonggi-do, South Korea; sisters, Quja Koo of Seoul, South Korea and Youngja Koo of Daegu, South Korea; brother-in-law, George Proctor of Sumner; as well as numerous special nieces, nephews, and friends. She was a sweet and caring lady that had a big heart and an even warmer smile who was adored and loved by everyone who knew her and will be missed dearly. She is reuniting with her husband, William E. Proctor; parents, Bong-in Koo and Kum-Soon Park; brother, Jong Mo Koo; brothers-in-law, Gerald Proctor, and Robert Proctor; sisters-in-law, Marie Rowell, Shirley Wellman, and Patricia Iwaniszek; and nieces, Cheryl Iwaniszek, Deborah Murphy, and Justina Cain.
Relatives and friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:30 a.m. Feb. 15, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John's Catholic Church, 207 York St., Bangor.
