Hampden – Mildred “Midge” Maye Beane, 78, passed away peacefully at her home September 6, 2019, after a long battle with leukemia. She was born October 23, 1940, in Millinocket, the daughter of Raymond and Mildred (Wright) Higgins.
Midge graduated from Stearns High School in 1959. In 1964 she married Wesley Beane and helped raise his two sons. She soon grew their family, having three children, and in 1973 they moved to Hampden where she lived the remainder of her life. She was a strong and determined woman, taking night courses to become a CNA while raising her kids. She loved her job at St. Joseph Hospital where she worked for over 20 years until her retirement in 2006. She always spoke fondly of St. Joseph and her many coworkers. She was fiercely devoted to her family, loved her grandkids dearly, and was very proud of their accomplishments.
Midge enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, reading, and watching her favorite soap operas, and was a loyal Red Sox fan. She was an animal lover, caring for numerous pets over the years; stray cats knew they would find a good home with her. She will be remembered fondly by all those who knew her for her quick wit, infectious laugh, and kind heart.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Wesley; stepsons, Royce and wife, Norma, of Hebron, and Ray and wife, Donna, of Gorham; son, Jeffrey and wife, Janice, of Scottsville, NY; daughter, Beth Fitzgerald and husband, Branden, of Hampden; and daughter, Julie Beane and husband, Paul Harrison, of Brunswick; beloved grandchildren, Jessica, Josh, Doris, Robbie, Ashley, Aaron, Blake, Madeline, and Ruby; three great-grandchildren; niece, Karen; nephew, Harry; and a very special niece, Janet Feero of Fredericton, New Brunswick.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Marjorie; brothers, Harold, Harlan, and Robert; niece, Carrie; and grandson, Jeremy.
Special thanks to the caring staff of Lafayette Cancer Institute, as well as nurses and staff of Northern Light Hospice, who took care of Midge and made her comfortable during her illness.
