HOLDEN – Mildred M. (Thayer) Cantwell, 91, died March 31, 2019, at her home with her loved ones by her side. She was born May 11, 1927, in Hermon, the daughter of Horace Nelson Thayer, Sr., and Mona Etta (Ross) Thayer.
Mildred attended schools in Hermon. In 1946, she went to live with her aunt and uncle Viola & Howard Brann in Levant. In 1952, she married a very handsome man from New Hampshire and they relocated to Holden where they built their home, raised their family and lived until their deaths.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George J. Cantwell Sr.; son-in-law, Charles Ivan Taggett; daughter-in-law, Debbie Cantwell; five sisters; and five brothers. Surviving are her daughters, Donna Hall and husband, Dwayne of Holden, Debra Taggett of Hampden; sons George J. Cantwell Jr. of Holden; and James Grant, whom she considered a son; grandchildren, Suzanne Hall, Chasity Ellis and fiancé, Jessi Mallory, Kim Kimball and husband, Steve, George Cantwell III and wife, Erika, Bret Cantwell and fiancé, Tina Guptill, and Loretta Cantwell; great-grandchildren, Alexis, John, Jordan, Dillon, Damon, Michaela, Cheyanne, MaKenzie and Micah; two sisters, Elinor Dunifer, and Wanita Ketch; a sister-in-law, Frances Thayer; many nieces and nephews; great friends in Christ from the Holden Congregational Church; and much loved and very special cousins, Adela Mishio, Jay Porter, and Pamela and Meghan Young.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday April 7, 2019, at the Holden Congregational Church, with Rev. Linette George, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the church hall immediately following the service, Sunday. Interment will be in Hart Cemetery, Holden, in the spring. Those wishing to remember Mildred in a special way may make gifts in support of the family to Donna Hall, her daughter.
