Mitchell J Sleeper, 98, passed away July 13 in the hospital. He was born in Caribou, Maine, February 14, 1924 the son of Joseph and Alma Sleeper.
Mitch married Florence Sleeper (predeceased) after his discharge from the service in the Navy after the war and enjoyed 75 years of marriage.
Mitch graduated from Caribou High School in 1941 and was very active in all sports. He entered the Navy to serve his country in 1942. Together started and operated Sleepers and the Jac and Jean Shops throughout the state.
Surviving are three sons, Michael Sleeper, Richard Sleeper, Steven Sleeper and his wife, Terri; a daughter Susan Brush and her husband Tony; grandchildren, Anna Cressey, Julia Whiting, Maria Burke, Michael Sleeper, Cole Sellazzo, Jeffrey Sellazzo, Alex Brush and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Florence, parents, a sister, and brother and granddaughter Michelle Sleeper.
A funeral will be held 11:00 am Wednesday July 20, 2022 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A private family Rite of Committal will be at Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
