HUDSON – Mona Marie Blitz passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at home with her husband Sandy by her side. Mona was born February 17, 1925, in Millbury, MA, along with her twin sister Madeleine, the daughter of Richard A. Magner and Cecile C. Crepeau.
Mona was from “the old school”; no college education, but a proud graduate of the Norwich Free Academy, where she was active in several sports. Mona was chosen to be the Drum Majorette for her junior and senior year. She taught herself bookkeeping so well, she eventually worked for one of the Big Eight accounting firms. Mona served as the Deputy Town Clerk for the town of Hudson, and at the age of 77 partnered to open a beauty salon in Bangor. Other than her family, there is nothing more that she loved then her books, reading at least ten books a week, and her “kitty cats”. But, the largest part of her, heart was reserved for her husband, children and grandchildren.
Mona was predeceased by her parents, her twin Madeleine Proctor, and older half-sister Roberta, a younger brother Richard A. Magner, and her first husband Lester Benson and her step-son David S. Blitz. Mona is survived by her devoted husband Sandy, her son Gregg Benson and wife Deborah, son Eric Benson and wife Shanna, Craig Benson and wife Yulia, grandchildren Sarah, Josh, Emily, Chase, Chelsea, Jamie, Daniel, and Miles, great-grandchildren Skyler and Gage. Mona will also be sorely missed by her step-children Lita, Michael and spouse Deborah, Darcy and Dr. Jeff Becker, Jeff and spouse Zulma. She will continue to be loved by her step grandchildren, Merissa, Jessica, Carley Rae, Nate, Josh, Zack, Rachel, A.J., David Michael, and Brandon.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses of St. Joseph Hospital, Bangor Rehab and Nursing, and St. Joseph Hospice for the care and loving concern they provided Mona.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m., Sunday, May 18, 2014, at the Jewish Funeral Chapel, 118 Center St., Bangor. Interment will be in Beth El Cemetery, Bangor.
