BREWER – Mona Spain, 86, passed away Tuesday August 13, 2013 at a Bangor hospital. She was born December 14, 1926, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of the late Charles and Thelma (Johnston) Dennison. Mona graduated from Fort Fairfield High School in 1945 and also graduated from the State of Maine Cosmetology School in 1946. For a time, she owned and operated her own beauty shop. Until her health failed, Mona was an active member of the East Orrington Congregational Church. She served as chair of public relations and advertising for church activities and belonged to the Women’s Fellowship and the Three T Amen group. She was a voracious reader, loved to knit, and enjoyed outings with her family and friends. Predeceasing Mona were her beloved husband Randolph Spain Sr., her stepfather Hazen L. Nightingale, her brother Donald K. Dennison, and her stepbrothers Norman and Ronald Nightingale. Mona is survived by her son John Dorsey, her favorite daughter-in-law Carol Lovell-Reed of Connecticut; her beloved niece and husband Jackie and Gerry Thurlow and family of Lincoln; stepdaughter Cheryl Gordon of Sorrento; stepson Randolph Spain, Jr. of Brewer; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces and nephews and special friends: Donna Giles, Betty Renaud, Donna Jamison, and Lucy Spencer. A memorial service will be held 11 AM Friday August 16, 2013 at the East Orrington Congregational Church, 38 Johnson Mill Road, Orrington with the Rev. Carl Schreiber officiating. A committal service will take place at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in Fort Fairfield. A service of Brookings-Smith Brewer Chapel.
