GLENBURN - Muriel Anne Lyon, 84, passed away peacefully, after a long illness, in her home, that she called her "little slice of heaven", at Pushaw Lake in Glenburn, surrounded by family while her husband's loving arms were around her.
Muriel grew up in Orono and graduated from Orono High School in 1953, where she met the love of her life, Rupert Lyon. They graduated in June and married on September 7 that same year, and were blessed with a 65 year marriage, truly a love of a lifetime.
In the next few years they had a daughter and a son: Margot Getchell and her husband, Don, who are Fulltime RVers and spend winters in the south and summers up here at the lake, and Rupert Mark Lyon and his wife, Janet who reside at their beautiful home in Holden.
A great joy to Muriel were her grandchildren and great grandchildren; Matthew Johnson and his son, Braeden Johnson, Michele Merrill and her son, Logan Connors, Mark Lyon, Daniel Lyon and his daughters, Charlotte and Penelope Lyon, and Sarah Estes and her daughter, Parker Estes.
Muriel's passion was caring for others and she did so her whole life, taking care of not only family but people in need. Nothing made her happier than that.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Howard Beaulieu; sister, Marie Cooper; and foster brother, Lawrence Augustine.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 A.M., Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord, St. Ann’s Chapel, 84 Main St, Bradley. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Bennoch Road, Orono. The family invites relatives and friends to a reception back at the parish hall immediately following the interment Wednesday.
Those who wish to remember Muriel in a special way may make gifts in her memory to the Parish of the Resurrection of the Lord, 429 Main St., Old Town, ME 04468. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com
